New COPO Camaro cam specs
The new COPO Camaro has some very unusual cam specs with a 40+ degree intake / exhaust split. Can anyone speculate as to what drives these numbers? I don't think I've ever seen that kind of extreme split on a GM V8. Just curious...

It also says "reverse split pattern" so it's likely a typo.
LOL, according to the post count I'm an "expert." The only thing I'm an expert at is asking questions.

Intake port so good it doesn't require what the exhaust port does?
Opening the exhaust valve real early or closing it late?
just thoughts.. be interesting to know the open/close numbers..

Carry the power over a much broader range, the work done by the pressure is mostly finished when the valve opens?
Re: New COPO Camaro cam specs
How much do they cost now and who do you have to know to buy one?
The original 1969 was still the best because most folks could afford it at 3600 bucks...they were available to anyone... and it had a VIN number just like any other car so you could drive it on the street.
Now you gotta be a somebody richie pants know some GM wheel to buy one or bid on one at the auction.

Those are the correct specs at .050" tappet lift.

"Quality" is like buying oats. You can pay a fair price for it and get some good quality oats,
or you can get it a hell of a lot cheaper, when it's already been through the horse.

Re: New COPO Camaro cam specs
My original curiousity question is why do they use such a large split? What is the advantage to this on the LSX platform? It doesn't seem like aftermarket cams follow this pattern (although admittedly I don't play in the LSX world). I've just never seen such a large split on a GM pushrod v8 before. Even the n/a 376 ci engine has the wide split.

Looks like the Copos will put plenty of Fords and Mopars on the trailer as usual. Nice package by Chevy.

Google "S.A.M. Racing COPO Camaro" and you'll see a link to an article on their car that includes some comments on the camshaft.

About 95,000 bucks....Unlike the 1969 Copo it's ready to race out of the box... Yes a lot of money....Winning has never been cheap...427dart wrote:How much do they cost now and who do you have to know to buy one?
