Oil testing

Post by Lizardracing »

Other than Blackstone, are there better ones? Just looking for general oil condition so I can change my drain intervals to suit and keep an eye on things.
Blackstone is great but they compare to a "national average" and I prefer to compare to new oil in my diesel and my race engines. Both on Schaeffers Syn 5-50 and 15/40.

There's a relative newcomer SPEEDiagnostix ... owned-operated by the guy who sometimes seems to be everywhere (Lake Speed JUNIOR).
Have no personal experience ... dunno if better or worse. Perhaps you can be guinea pig?

Also, CAT dealers have a fluids analysis program too ... no experience there either

I called my local CAT dealer. They call it a SOS kit, $25, pick up and drop off local, 2-3 weeks and results are emailed back.

I've used CAT, but not for ~20 years.

More recently I've been using Detroit Diesel.

I switched only because I had a co-worker who was a Detroit Diesel subcontractor at our jobsite. He got me a nice discount. I bought a 12-pack of oil sample kits then, and one-at-a-time after those were gone.
