Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads
After reading your post I would try 1.5 ratio rockers, and 165 on the seat, also what is the oil pressure?

Its a turbo 400 rebuilt with a B&M Transpak kit in the full race mode nothing really special. I do have a Powerglide with a trans brake if I wanted to try that.

Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads
Right now I still have the Lucas 5w30 break in oil in it only was 6 runs on it . Pressure was 65 cold at idle, hot after a run 30-35 at idle during the run it was in the 60lbs range.
Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads
In my opinion I'd keep working with what you have, think you will see a 6 sec pass, because I've been 7.04 @ 94 MPH, I don't think the glides the answer, I don't think a 1.65 rocker is the answer as well, I do know hyd rollers like oil pressure, 60 seems ok. I think your going to get there.6.50camaro wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 11:15 pmIts a turbo 400 rebuilt with a B&M Transpak kit in the full race mode nothing really special. Mark. What 60ft times did you run in that 7.04 pass ?

1.50 but it was my truck, with losses.Monza355 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 7:19 amvortecpro wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 6:06 amIn my opinion I'd keep working with what you have, think you will see a 6 sec pass, because I've been 7.04 @ 94 MPH, I don't think the glides the answer, I don't think a 1.65 rocker is the answer as well, I do know hyd rollers like oil pressure, 60 seems ok. Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads
Just for comparison the last I ran this short block was in 2015. Back then it had a Crane 240/248 @.050 ..372/.372 lobe lift w/1.65/1.6 rockers giving .613 intake .595 ex lift at the valve . This was with Crane hyd roller lifter and K-motion K800 springs. The heads were a set of Reed ported 292's with a GM bowtie single plane intake and the 750 Holley mentioned earlier. With the 5300 stall converter and 5.13 gears that set up would turn 6800-7000 rpm without any issues but E.T.ed the best shifting at 6500. Ran 7.0X all year @ 96.xx mph and 60' were in the 1.47 to 1.50 range depending on prep and temp. In the fall with good air it run the best of 6.96@98 mph. The cam lifters, springs and heads are gone. The 5.13's chip a couple teeth but still have all of the other parts. If I can get back to this with these 441 heads I would be extremely happy.
Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads
Is there a size difference between the 5300 stall converter and the one you run now ?

Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads
The 5300 is an Coan 8" spragless race converter. The 4500 is 9.5" Freakshow converter and the 4600-5200is a B&M Quick Sixty 9.5 " as of yet untested by Me. The Coan was the converter used with a Powerglide and T-brake the last the last time this engine was in the car.

Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads
That is interesting .I just pulled out my sheet from degreeing in the cam and the Lobes both intake and exhaust have 25* from .006 lift to .050 lift on the opening side and 31* from .050 to .006 on the closing side. Any thoughts F-bird . I do have the .050 to.200 numbers if needed

Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads
This was a Super Stock head. 327. QJet. I will post dyno sheet later.
Re: Home ported sbc 441 heads
May want to look at the hyd lifters. One or more may have excessive leak down.
The genuine crane hyd roller lifters I bet are of better quality than many.. (may be able to run correctly when using higher seat open spring load for high rpm)
Something to look at especially if testing using solid roller lifters on that cam show better results at high rpm.
I believe many of the hyd lifters are inconsostant.
I do know that the oil used effecs hyd lifter performance and if you can reduce oil airation it will be a perf +++
In a perfect world a engine with hyd lifters would have its own isolated dedicated hyd oil system separate from the engines oiling system.. Keep the air bubbles out.
Excessive high rpm leak down really creates hard valve seating. Makes 'em bounce. The whole valvetrain vibrates.

Yes the .200" duration numbers would be interesting.
You can post all your cam degreeing measurements if you like. Good analysis....
