Oil pan gasket 434 SBC

Post by 408 Nova »

Is there an oil pan gasket that you don't have to grind for crank/rod clearance on a 434 SBC?

I'm running a Fel-Pro one piece now for a standard oil pan width block.

Yes, it's called a tube or two of gray form-a- gasket.

When ever I build with a oil pan rail mounted crank scraper that's all I ever use.

One you put down the scraper with a thin bead, then apply a good continuous bead and then let it skin over a good amount before you put the pan on.

Then let it all set up for 5 hours minimum.

Oh, and be sure to run the bead around the Crank case side of the pan bolts, not the outside and that will prevent leaks out the bolt holes.

I should mention there is no dipstick provision in the gasket.

Yessir, saw that. I don't need it but Fel-Pro 1881 has a dipstick provision on the right hand side.

Milodon 41008 works with the Dart SHP block and 4" stroke.

Hiya,
Victor Reinz grey silicone for the win ;) Easy to peel off later and will not leak. Factory sealant on many diesels with no oil pan gasket.

I use permatex ultra gray in place of gaskets 99% of the time. Water pump, front cover, intake, valley pan,oil pan, damn near everything other than valve covers. Going to try the Felpro pan gasket this time tho due to easy removal without beating the alum pan up.

Ultra copper on headers ,no gasket.

Timely, just playing with a leak, thought it was my dodgy LH dip tick conversion, turns out it was the bolt before it, the metal bolt ring McCord gaskets stop the cork splitting but don't necessarily seal the bolts, bit of blue stuff fixed it.
Must remember to use paint primer on the next sump mod.

I use Ultra Grey on the headers now, no problems.

The flange doesn't "see" that much heat.

In what application? Drag or endurance? Just asking and I absolutely agree there is not much heat seen at the flange.

Grey, black, orange.... they all seem to work even on the big hp turbo stuff
