Oxygenated Fuel??

Postby gimmemud » Fri Apr 27, 2007 9:33 am

I have a friend who runs a n/a class (100 feet mud racing) and most races are limited to racing fuel only, but we are planning on going to a race later this year that has no fuel limitations and was wanting to pick up a little hp if possible. I have heard of the oxygenated fuels and was wandering if they realy help, also if there are any problems with running this type fuel.

Just a little vehicle info;
3200lb 4wd truck
555ci 10.2 deck BBC
Eagle rotating assy
Dart 360 full race ported heads
15-1 comp
AED 1350 Dominator
Top Secret UD Harold cam ( that is everything we hoped it would be)
Powerglide with 2.6-1 transfer case
4.56 gear (High gear ratio 11.86-1)
44" tire
Unpredictable Pro Mud Racing.

Just finished a successful season in circle track. Used Sunoco 104 in a 13.7 engine. No probs. Sunoco says it's all good in 15:1........trikes

Truly oxygenated fuels do make more power over conventional. The VP-Import is an oxygenated fuel. It will (jetted correctly) make about 5% more power over the VP C-16 with no other changes.
Be prepaired.....maybe be shiting down when they give you the price. I have not priced it lately, but based on my recent drum of C-16 it's probably in the $25@ gallon in the 54 gal drum price.

Have fun.................blessings............Ron Clevenger.

I don't mind buying expensive fuel. It's cheaper than building a new or lower compression engine. In our case it helped solved the detonation problem and gave ous reliability. In this division the top three cars all use oxygenated unleaded fuels. Sunoco 104 is the preferred brand. What ever fuel u choose make sure u get your engine set up on the dyno. Very important that.....trikes

Vp makes a 101 unleaded that is oxygenated, but I don't think it will work in a 15 to 1 motor. All the truck pull motors we do run C-16 but it is not oxygenated. Check vp's website.

VP's DRT is about the best for 14 to 1 and over. We use it in our Pro 4 motors that are 14+ to 1. It's legal at most tracks and adds about 10-12 hp more. CMP is about the best for 14 to 1 and lower. Good luck,

I've used DRT with good success in my engines. Typically 10-15 hp can be expected, around the same in torque.

DRT seems to be very forgiving, friendly to use. It has some nitro in it so it does burn a little slower than something like C25.... so, if you're brave DRT would tolerate a little timing added.

Put about 2 jets in it, no timing to start over a conventional fuel.

C44 is another good power adder fuel. Much more violent and you can hurt stuff with it. But worth more steam if properly used than DRT.
