Poll - Short Turn Curve + Bowl Porting View Perspective

just looking for Head Porter's opinions on their perspective
on which method they use to look at the Short Turn Curve while Porting it ??

My Brain is only wired to view or comprehend the Short Turn Shape properly in this 1st Pic view below

i cannot comprehend the Short Turn Shape properly in this 2nd Pic view below

I'm 2nd pic for short turns.
But I gotta view the transition from runner walls to bowl from the 1st pic's perspective.
So I gotta flip the thing around a bit LOL.

I have to look down on it. Like with the intake flange down. I do this and not afraid to say it, when you get in there porting, it's easy to get confused! I've been known to put a sharpie line on the deck reminding me this is the pushrod side!

I'am wired to do the STR as in the 2nd pic with head tipped to myself more, so as to see half of the port opening. I have a nice LED
light that I shine up from intake flange side. Then head gets flipped over to (floor down) to get other half of STR. Then it is
back and forth until I get a good shape by feel. STR is done last then to the flow bench, if it flows good I will make a floor/STR
templet to form remaining ports.

It is an interesting question. Same pic just reversed, I like the top pic because that would be the position I grind most of the ssr. As far as visualization of what is happening I use both views and usually a paper and sharpie curve.

I usually start roof down and shape bowl as it transitions into the valve job and walls as they transition into the bowl. After that I port from the entrance to the top of the turn to transition that into the bowl.

I leave the floor to seat turn for last after sizing and shaping the rest of the runner. Doing it that way I know what I have to deal with when trying to get the air around the turn

This is my view when I start on the STR . I work up to and over the crest with a egg/oval burr, then flip head over( floor down) and start
back on the crest and work out to opening

i thought at least 7 out of 10 would Port looking using Pic# 1

so far ..its way opposite .

i thought about asking this , because i had a few recent Emails
and all the ST Curve Pics they sent were like #2 Pic

i had to flip them vertically in software to study what they sent me

I would go for picture 2, but to be honest I prefer to look from the intake side and to be even more honest, I need to pull an impression with a piece of solder to confirm the radius is constant.

I'm also with the general concensus here.

For me, and may be the same for others, I prefer to let gravity help me out during heavier stock removal. Rather than having to work against gravity by lifting the grinder/burr up against the short side as in pic #1's orientation. Aside from fatigue reduction it also seems to allow me more control as well. Especially considering those two run hand in hand towards the final results and time taken to get there. So, generally speaking I'm always repositioning the head to work downwards against the surface being worked on.

But I think it's like anything else.. you get accustomed to doing it a certain way and gets tougher to shake old habits once you gain some proficiency. We tend to just stick with what works and don't rock the boat any more than necessary.

I think it has to do more with control, what you use for porting tools, how you hold the head.

Pic #1 for intake and Pic #2 for exhaust for the looking, thinking, feeling process .
For some reason its easier for me to picture the indivudual ports in my head if look at each differently.
