Hello again.
Now it's time again, this time it's COMP Cam's conical valve spring 7228-16 that I fitted when the beehive spring broke.
Exactly 20587 km (12866 mils) and 5 seasons of slow street driving max 5000 rpm at a few red lights.
Thinking about putting Edelbrock original E-tec springs back.
Considering how I drive, I think they work great.

No chance somebody else is getting in this vehicle and pulling low gears at high speed?

Whos cam ?

You might have some frequency issues at a steady engine speed for long distance. How far from coil bind are they set up and who’s camshaft is this ?

I am the only driver.
I think all the data is at the beginning of the thread.
Can't remember all the measurements but made according to the instructions.

Don't believe you've disclosed the grinder or grind, just the basic numbers.

Any visual evidence of corrosion on any of the springs or trapped moisture in the rocker covers ?

Is the engine always brought up to full operating temp/oil temp for most drives ?

I just had a 7256 conical fail just like that. Just over 2 yrs old but only couple hundred miles. Limited street strip car, had dozen or more dyno pulls, a bunch of 1/8 mile passes, lot of time on rev limiter two steps for turbo spool. Broke at idle thankfully. Im looking to go dual conical or something else now

The camshaft is the one included in the Edelbrock Total Power Package 435 HP Small Block Chevy Top-End Engine Kits 2097.
Always run up to operating temperature no traces of condensation pcv system ok.
Other 15 springs all have 130 LBS closed pressure.
This also happened while idling at a red light.

In the past, Comp would work with reputable vendors on items like valve springs, Lifters, and rockers, then they started having those products copied and made somewhere else, to increase profits. I would not use anything they sell.

Was it the same valve location as before or different?

Their issues have been going on for a lot longer than 5 years.

Is there something to be said for too much spring and an excess of coil bind height?
It's been suggested here (and elsewhere) that's it's better for the spring to be operated closer to it's coil bind than it is further from it. Seems counter-intuitive in a way but might make perfect sense from a harmonic perspective.

FTR: I also had a 26918 fail. Use set although it was reunited with the same cam it started life with. Spring are circa 2005.

I was recently advised by the "local" guy who designed my cam to move away from the PAC 1219 and go with the 1218X instead.
