I am looking at a serpentine belt system for the 572 hemi I am working on.The company says to use the Mopar P3830183 "thin" balancer or equivalent.I called ATI about this and they didn't know what that meant.I would like to use an SFI balancer on this motor.Any help would be great.
Thanks

Crosses to a legit Mopar performance number.

Looks like it is Not SFI approved.

Correct.I know this Mopar number is not SFI approved.I am looking for an approved damper that is "thin".Whatever that means. :?

They might be referring to the cast crank 440 and 440 6 Pack external balance style dampers as being "thick". I believe that they used a different lower pulley than the steel crank 440 or 383.

Thanks. So does anyone know of an internal SFI balancer that would be the same or close to OEM? It can be shorter as I can make a spacer but not longer. Thanks again.

Street Hemi's used the "thick" balancer. 64-65 Race Hemi's and wedges used the "thin balancer". I use ATI for a "thin" balancer and Fluidampner for a "thick" balancer.

Do you happen to know the ATI part number for the thin balancer? Thanks

You should probably figure out where the pulley mounting surface needs to be for your billet pulley kit to work. Once you know that you can buy a damper. There are a lot of SFI dampers available for BB Mopar engines. Summit shows 23 of them.

Yeah, that's what I am doing now.ATI's website is a little confusing... at least for me! lol. Thanks

This is from the pulley system website:

OTE:The Mopar S-Drive MUST be used in conjunction with a thin crank vibration damper with dimensions of Mopar Performance number P3830183 or equivalent (distance from the face of the timing cover mounting surface on the block to the pulley mount surface on the face of the damper measures 2.144″. Spacers are available to accommodate dampers that are shorter).

You might check with BHJ. They should have one. It will likely take an elastomer style damper to be able to wrap back around the front of the cover and keep it that tight to the block.

There is a new article on Street Muscle Magazine called "The Benefits of A Front Drive System From Billet Specialties" ... They used a Fluidampr 720301.

The original P3830183 can be seen at www.factorychryslerparts

Professional Products 90013 may be worth looking at as well.
