GM A-body (Olds) heater core fitting modification

Post by slowmobile »

I'm trying to clean up my engine compartment and would like to get rid of the rubber heater hose in favor of black braided lines on a '66 Cutlass. Does anyone know how to "convert" the existing brass nipples to -AN fittings?

Thanks.

You could cut off some of the barb area, and cut a 1/2 NPT "female" brass coupler in half, "unless it's formed for that purpose", and solder it to the core. AN adapters could then be threaded into the brass. You'd probably want to screw the adapters into the brass before soldering, so you won't twist off the heater core.

My 2 cents.

Are you talking about a female 1/2 NPT coupler?

Thanks.

Yes. Take something like these, and solder them onto the ends of the heater core.

1/2" thread, 1/2" copper pipe size.

1/2" - 3/8", unclear on what is what.

And screw these into them.

And viola!! Bada bing!

Simplest way in my opinion....
