Align Bored Mains with surface rust - suggestions to restore

Post by shoedoos »

Had the block done a few months back but the machined surfaces on the align bore dried out and some surface rust has developed (yeah, I know it was dumb).....

Does anybody have suggestions to clean them back up? Could I run a 400 grit cylinder hone through or would some scotch brite work....or any other ideas?

Depends how bad it is, but if a scotch brite pad, or even a 3M gasket cleaning roloc pad makes it look good to you, it sure isnt taking any material off, so it'd be fine.

I wouldnt hesitate trying to clean it up by hand

Scotch brite with a light oil like WD40 will be fine. I would not hone it.
