I did not watch this but it looks like the only thing the outer pistons can do is kick the inner pistons up?

It makes a different sounding 6hp mini-bike engine as seen in the video. Not a threat to modern engine design... :)

True , but in doing so it is also pulling the crank back to tdc under power assisting the compression stroke of the other piston. Seems like theoretically the engine makes power throughout the entire crank rotation as opposed to only on the downstroke. A bit of real world Rube Goldberg engineering.

So finally a set up like a steam locomotive where power is applied for both extremes of motion.
