Op
Find the cork in your system and rpm it some more. If it will run 7300 I would have no less than 6500 stall in it.

Dave B , I think I know what the cork is it's the heads. The CSA at the pushrod pinch goes into choke at about 6500. The only purpose of this exercise was to see what a set of 441 heads that I ported myself with no flow bench, no professional training, an ancient Hall-Toledo seat grinder could get to run with a short block that was build over 10 years ago with a block that has had no machine work since it left the GM plant and left over parts that are less than the latest technology. And be somewhat street able. It is what it is. It will stay in the car for a couple more weeks of play. Then it will be pulled for full roller .060 over 350 w/12.5 comp 225cc cnc headed engine or my 421 that I know goes 6.31 and has to be slowed down to run 6.50 index racing. For me now a days it mostly play day at the track only serious racing once and awhile. Alls good and thanks for taking interest and reading and offering advice. Dan

Or it might just get a better cam, springs, and a Holley strip dominator intake and more converter and have some more play time in the car. I have all that on the shelf in the Garage. Dan

Had another TnT on Saturday . Not at my normal track they had a 10K bracket race. So I ventured 108 miles east to London, Ky. Nice track about 700' higher in elevation. temps were cool 48 to 58 degrees F. DA was about the same as the last time I was out at Beech Bend around 1000' to 1100' had a 19mph crosswind, it was 7mph cross wind last time out. I only changed the carb spacer this week Went from a 1" hybrid 3 hole to a 1" open .
got 4 runs in 3 good 1 run the 1 to 2 shift got screwed up when the solenoid failed to move the shift handle. Revved to about 6800 or more before I shifted Good 60' and mph everything else was off . Valve train was OK . 1st run [48*F and overcast] was a 7.44 the 60' was 1.548 which is about .016 off what the best 60' of the combo mph down 1.25 mph that could be the wind. The last run 58*F and the sun had been out for a couple hours] was the best 1.523 60' best for this combo yet. 7.402 2nd best with 1.50 rockers. MPH still down about 1. For some reason I short shifted 2 to 3 don't know if it helped or hurt because it was the best run of the day and the starting line was warming up hence the better 60'.
I don't think there was any difference between the open and the Hybrid spacer for this combo at this point. This Saturday back to Beech Bend with 1.6 intake rockers. Going to move shift point down a couple hundred rpm and see what that does. Dan

After the last Beech Bend tnt I came away with a best for the day E.T. of 7.301@ 92.30 mph this was with a consent 22MPH headwind at the driver head light corner of the car. when the Car run the 7.27 last fall there was only a very mind varying breeze. Shifted at 6500 1-2 and 6300 2-3. 60' was the normal 1.53 that seems to be the what the car will do footbraking from 1700 to1800 rpm any more and it pushes the beams or starts loading the chassis. After the 3rd run it was not holding as good idle oil pressure as it had previously 18psi hot down from 29 psi hot idle. So the motor is out and on the engine stand. Going to pull the pan and check the oil pump and bearings . Then it will get a new bigger cam Lunati Voodoo 243/251@.050 along with a Holley Strip Dominator single plane intake and better Pac 1221X valve springs. Will keep the 1.6 /1.5 rockers on to start and maybe a converter with 400 to 500 more stall. I have install a .060 350 in the car to play with for the summer. Going to try and get this engine to run 6.50 in the 1/8th. I had a very similar short block with nowhere near as good of heads go 6.75with ease in the past. So maybe the better heads will help make the difference. Will update in the fall when the home ported 441 head engine goes back in. Playing with the idea of putting 2.00 hollow stem valves in those heads. [.060 bigger valve and lighter than the current 1.94 ]
