biggest drop air base fits edelbrock avs2 800 cfm

hi all , does anyone have a drop base air cleaner on an edelbrcok avs2 carb. Whats the maximum drop anyones achieved? Hood clearance issues.... Also , whats the height on the AVS2 above flange the air cleaner sits on to very top of carb/choke assemblies? On my holley 4150 it's 2" so no matter what I do with drop bases I need to have at least 2.5" to the air cleaner lid above flange for air vent clearance. Im hoping on the edelbrock this might be smaller allowing me a bigger drop and more hood clearance - if that makes sense. Was told it's about an inch so if I allow the same 1/2 lid to top of carb clearance the lid could be an inch lower than on the holley 4150. thanks all.

Not an AVS2, but similar Carter carb. Rolled a hoop and made my own extreme drop base from an off-the-shelf drop base. Had to get creative with a throttle cable bracket which needed to come in at a steeper angle...





The original drop base was pretty thin. Cut it apart with a plasma, rolled an 18ga hoop, then mig'd it back together with .023 wire.

But is the gap between the air cleaner top & base causing a flow restriction? Hard to tell from a pic, but gap looks tight.

If you look at the shape of the top/base, the tightest point between the two is at about 9" diameter. Let's say worst case the base/lid are only 3/8" apart on a 9" dia. That's about 10.60sqin of area at the tightest point, or about 1sqin more area than the combined total of (4) 1-3/4" throttle bores.

I borrowed some of the grandkid's playdoh and went out in the shop and measured the actual gap. There's 1.355" between the assembled base/lid @ 9" dia, so about 38.3sqin of area. That's almost 5x the combined area of my Carter 625's throttle bores.

Just cut the choke horn off your holley carb and angle cut the vent tubes a bit shorter. Then the GM "L88/z28 drop base air cleaner base will work.

Why use a tall hi-rise intake, to only choke the carb?

thats the dilemma , higher intake but air lid gets lower for hood clearance

This is an instance where people want the best but don't want what it takes to utilize the best. Similar as building an engine with high compression but letting it sit in the garage because you Don't wanna keep buying/paying for race gas.

not really , just want the best with my current set-up and hood limitations. Anyone can put on a high rise intake a big cowl. But want the stock look

the Allstar 26092 says it's inch and 7/8 drop, the Holley street demon carb measure 4.3" from intake flange to top of choke tower with the link protruding another half inch
