Brodix -2 BBC flow question

Post by rewguy »

What would be considered very good air, from a ported BBC Brodix -2 casting? 2.300" intake valve, 50 degree seat. And how much power has anyone made with this head (ported) on a 496 bbc?

A well done BB-2 Brodix will probably flow about 385cfm at .800 lift with a 2.30".

How much power a 496 will make with such a reworked head is to much of a moving target. You need to define compression, camshaft, intake system, fuel, and rpms at a minimum to get any kind of a decent answer to that question. It's kind of like saying "how high is high?"

Rewguy, i am gonna say if the engine will be built close to the way most 12-13 to 1 compression engines are built, in other words (typical build), 775 to 825 H.P. with the correct matching parts. This is my honest opinion. Mark H.

Mark I am going to see in a few weeks how the 489 with RHS 320 heads ported by Tod works out. .750 lift and 13.5 with around 410 on the bad ports.

I did a set about 4 years ago, they went 390's at .800 lift. 2.300 and 45 seat. Very difficult to get the chamber right, and try to keep compression up.
On a 509cid, we made right at 900HP with a single 4 from Mark, shear plate from John over at Product Eng., and ported 454R intake.

Really good headers, 14.7:1, and Q16. Also, use a good pan with lots of volume!

I dunno yet. I took about .280 off of the apex of the ssr. I'm gonna wait to flow it until I have a valve job done. 50 deg. 2.300.
