LOOKING FOR ENGINE BUILDER ADVICE.
I have a sbc 406 with cast iron bowtie heads and recently bought some Brodix 11x heads with 2.100/1.625 valves and they have been ported by hand and look pretty amazing. Was told they flowed 306 @ .700. Jesel rockers with 1.65 intake and 1.60 exhaust. Because of 60/40 valve center line im going to have to order pistons. Im looking for advice on build. Car weighs 2760 lbs, powerglide, 4.56s, 31x13x15 rear tire. Rear ladder bar suspension car. Car is running 6.80s to 6.90s @ 99-100mph with current set up depending on DA. Have sprayed 300 in two stages and run 6.27 @ 108 mph. My goal is 5.99 to 6.0 on motor so I can run most index classes on motor. Looking for good cam, compression, piston combo to get me where I want to be on this 406sbc. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance and Im new to forum.

What body car is this 406 in?

I think you might be blowing thru your converter on the nitrous. Your old set up should run 5.90's with a 300 shot easy. It in all honesty, should be running what you run on the bottle now, on the Engine. Re: LOOKING FOR ENGINE BUILDER ADVICE.
If you already have pistons suitable in every other way, can't you just touch up the reliefs to suit the 60/40 shifts?

Re: LOOKING FOR ENGINE BUILDER ADVICE.
Didnt know that could be done. Wouldnt that change the balance of the rotating assembly? Please explain further. Would love to use what I have.

Please explain. Would love to use what I have and spend money else where. Wouldnt shaving on the pistons change the balance of the rotating assembly? Need to have it rebalanced?

Re: LOOKING FOR ENGINE BUILDER ADVICE.
This car was built back in the early 90s and was last ran in 95 or 96. A good friend left it to me while he is away. It had been sitting since 1998 and I have brought it back to life. It has really old technology in it and Im slowly upgrading. Think these heads will be a substantial upgrade.
Re: LOOKING FOR ENGINE BUILDER ADVICE.
You will not remove enough weight from your pistons to require a re-balance.

Re: LOOKING FOR ENGINE BUILDER ADVICE.
Your old pistons will probably work as is. Most piston manufacturers make the valve reliefs extra large to accommodate most aftermarket cylinder heads. Just mock them up and check the clearance with clay.

Re: LOOKING FOR ENGINE BUILDER ADVICE.
So you think I can go from the 2.02/1.6 to the 2.100/1.625 with the 60/40 split and be ok? Man that would be awesome.JoePorting wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 3:20 pm Your old pistons will probably work as is.
