B&m mini blower. Bolt it on and call it done, or a tunnel ram and 2 quadrajets. Lol. Couldn't resist. Sorry.
Actually, a mini blower would solve his problem though.

Oh no, this guy will be no customer of mine. He is quite a jerk...so he can’t afford the added asshole tax My buddy that introduced us said he has had issue everywhere he goes. An hour after meeting this guy I was ready to choke the life out of him
Re: Adding 100+ HP to this combo
That may be why he got an engine that sounds good but that is it too.

If you don't like him tell him this will fix all his problems, I have a Mutha thumper camshaft I will give you to sell him
Re: Adding 100+ HP to this combo
That was eventually what I suggested, along with a set of heads. The conversation had already went south when he asked about a warranty...on something I didn’t build!!!B Original wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 5:43 pm If you don't like him tell him this will fix all his problems, I have a Mutha thumper camshaft I will give you to sell him
I’ve helped plenty of people with grossly mismatched combos, but you start getting a strong sense to run away when everything is everyone else’s fault, and people won’t return phone calls, etc. Consider the quicky tune a freebie, and move on down the road...

The right Thumper cam would be an improvement.travis wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 6:27 pmThat was eventually what I suggested, along with a set of heads. Don't need the 1 3/4 headers either, a set of 4-2-1"s might be nice.

I ran a very similar combo to his in a 77 Trans Am, DBL hump heads, vac sec 750, same intake with no divider and a 3.73 gear, it ran an 8.0 straight motor, probably mid 12 sec. 1/4 and a 7.60 on a 100 shot. You can find good used NOS system for $250.00 to $300.00 all day long.steve cowan wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 4:53 pmjack hit the nail on the head (pardon the pun) cannot even buy a decent set of aftermarket heads here in Australia for $1500.PackardV8 wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 3:52 pm Get a new customer. This one builds a small-displacement engine with a low torque cam and junk OEM heads; then he's surprised he can't smoke the tires at will and run 12s. Then, he wants you to make all the above magically appear for $1500?
Since we're not up on best SBC pricing, just what is current retail for the heads, cam and intake recommended? Then, figure your removal and installation labor, plus the distributor recurve and tuning.
as said a 100 - 150hp of nitrous would be your friend here but if the guy has no clue how to use the bottle that is a can of worms in itself.

Yes, I would recommend he try a smaller cam, somewhere in the 268 to 272 advertised area, and if he is willing to make the change then I would be more likely to help him but if he tells you he wants to stick with the cam he has then it may be best to just tell him good luck.travis wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 6:27 pmThat was eventually what I suggested, along with a set of heads. DISHED Pistons?
9.7 Compression?
Says Who?
Change to a set of flat tops, then see how those heads can be improved. Calculate which head gasket to get the compression right as I suspect it is far lower than the 9.7 he is telling you.

601 heads have 53cc combustion Chambers just in case you didn't pick up on thatCharlieB53 wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 9:21 pm DISHED Pistons?

I missed the 601 part entirely. I was thinking that the 601 casting were vortecs lol!
Re: Adding 100+ HP to this combo
dart iron eagle 200 with 49 cc combustion chambers would probably make 60-80 more with that cam.

With .500" lift Cam lift and 7000 rpm those small rocker arm studs are rocking around like a sapling in a stiff wind!
This issue alone would make me go for a aftermarket head with 7/16" studs!

You can cut a man's tongue from his mouth, but that does not mean he’s a liar, it just shows that you fear the truth he might speak about you!
Re: Adding 100+ HP to this combo
Though you won't be setting the world on fire with those heads I can tell you you will get much better results with a different cam. Howard's has a cam that just works great for the low performance gm heads. Don't remember the part number but the specs are 277/277 advertised duration 223/223 at .050 .450 lift on a 106 lobe spread and 102 icl. I built a flat top 355 a few years back with 993 heads and just blended the bowls and did a nice valvejob. With a performer rpm airgap and a 650 Holley it made 364 hp at 5400 rpm and 416 lb ft of torque at 4100 rpm. In a 1971 el Camino with 3.55 gears and way to tight of a converter it ran 8.41 at 84 mph in 1/8 and a 13.14 at 104 in the 1/4. It's a great cam for builds like that with around 9.5:1 compression.
