i remember a dyno test at the GM tech center on a NASCAR engine to get equal fuel distribution. the same engine in the race car at Daytona the plugs looked like they came out of 8 different engines. the G forces in the turns have a lot to do with the fuel distribution when using a carb. now you know why NASCAR went to electronic FI
NASCAR teams went to FI because they were forced to, Ask Warp Speed if that was a choice they would have made willingly...

the OEM wanted FI because their race team engineeers were not learning any thing new while NASCAR used carbs but FI did make it easier to tune the engines for performance and durability. it made the adjustmens for ignition timing and fuel flow for each cylinder a lot easier...

Did you ever think of this? With EFI, the NASCAR version of OnStar gives Brian France et al a joystick with live control of who has power or not during the progress of a race, a virtual restrictor plate adjustable on the fly.

All else equal, carburetors still make more power.

i believe were the nozzles are placed determines the HP and that is why NASCAR has a spec for that.

i would think that NASCAR would worry that the crew chief could do this. maybe that is why it took so long for NASCAR to agree to FI

Getting really off topic, but you can’t adjust fuel trim during the race in NASCAR?? Conserve fuel and deal with reduced power for a pit stop advantage? Or give it full fuel even if you might not make it to the finish and hope for a safety car (therefore conserve fuel running behind it)?

Give one man control of every car's ignition timing and he can control who wins the race. Who can you think of that would like to do that. Honda engineers were tuning their engines on the track during the Indy 500, live by satellite, decades ago

the ECM would have to be set up to do over the air updates to do that.

Interesting reading in the link. McLaren supplies ECUs to F1 and NASCAR.
In 2002 two-way telemetry was permitted so engineers could change settings on the cars from the pits. This is no longer allowed, but much was learned.
