Mild sbc 383 cam recomendation.

This is a fresh build, most of the major parts are already on hand. Flattop KB pistons and a pair of old but nice Brodix street heads.The heads are probably on a par with stock Vortec flow cfm . Recent measurement and calculations say static compression will be right on 9.5:1. The car has a nice exhaust with Hooker headers. Pretty good chance this will never see the track. The car is a 68 Camaro RS with a 3.73 rear gear. He is going to use an automatic this time, we will buy a converter to suit the combo. He is going to want it to have a nasty sounding idle, I want to make sure it won't beat itself to death on pump premium. Maybe something similar to a Comp 262 or 268 on a 108 lsa. Thanks Rick.

I used the Comp XE 274 Hyd. roller in my 351W with 9.0 compression with good heads and a 3.89 gear in my '85 Mustang LX with C4 auto.
Torque convertor was an 11 inch 2500 stall and it ran very well! Very streetable and ran easy 11.50 at 120.
I believe the duration was 224/232 on a 110 LCA.

This is not going to be a race motor, but a street driven tire smoker. I was hoping to get a response from someone with experience using the Crane 270 H06.

my idea of a mild street engine, would be a cam in the mid 230s@.050 or higher, anything lower would be considered a stock to me. i think of it that way because of the rpm range. Radical street engine or street strip would be starting at 260@.050.

sorry for you older gentleman but a 220s cam belongs in a tow truck.

Have you given any consideration to either the Comp Thumper or Lunati Bootlegger with 1.6 rockers on the intakes?

I had thought about using the Crane 270 h06 cam in a 355 I recently built for my 65' C-10 daily driver, but was concerned about it not making enough vacuum for the brake booster. It is a nice sounding cam for a daily driver-type of build, though. I ended up using an Elgin 1065 grind, which is similar to the older Comp 268he grind. Makes plenty of vacuum and has a little chop to it at an idle.
I'd say if the car in question has manual brakes, then the Crane cam would make a good choice for what you're wanting to do.

Friend of mine ran that in his 72 Camino many yrs ago, he loved it. Worked brakes fine had a slight rump but made good torque. Used a simple performer intake, headers, Qjet the usualy 80s stuff. I believe it ran low 14s. For a heavy car with a 3.08 gear not bad.
