Wiseco piston ring compressor

Post by Matt80 »

Hi, never had one in my hand, so can't imagine if it would be doable to enlarge a 3.385" piston ring compressor to 3.395" on a lathe as they do have a teflon coating
Thanks

i machined my own ring compressors out of steel and used no coating. if they are made from aluminum that may be a problem as it is softer than steel

Ah, true. Can you please tell me the lenght, top diameter and taper angle you used on yours?

Most compressor rings have a short parallel bore at the bottom of the taper, but I don't see that it's presence is critical. Therefore, you should be able to chuck it up in a lathe and face off the small end until the exit diameter 'grows' to the desired size. If you know the taper angle, a little finger work with the trig functions on a calculator will even tell you how far to go the achieve the required diameter.

Sure, thanks
Just wanted to know, if possible, the taper angle and the increase in percentage at the top diameter used on the Wiseco/ARP/etc ones :)

My 4.030 tapered ring compressor starts out at a .250 thick piece of material 1.800 in long the taper is 8 degrees .300 from the end is the bore size so the taper is only 1.5 in long
