if the engine builder had allowed more the team would be $10K richer.Warp Speed wrote: ↑Tue Mar 13, 2018 8:04 pm.4-.5 under?!?pamotorman wrote: ↑Tue Mar 13, 2018 5:54 pm that is why builders stay .4 / .5 under the spec. what happened was the engine spun a cam nearing the first night out and at the rebuild the shop clipped the heads because of the head gasket fire ring recess in the heads. he had built the engine too close to the limit originally. he admitted the original build was only .2 under.
That's no way to build an engine!!! Hahaha

If the engine builder/who ever touched it last wasn't a hack, it never wouldn't have been an issue!pamotorman wrote: ↑Tue Mar 13, 2018 9:18 pmif the engine builder had allowed more the team would be $10K richer.Warp Speed wrote: ↑Tue Mar 13, 2018 8:04 pm.4-.5 under?!?pamotorman wrote: ↑Tue Mar 13, 2018 5:54 pm that is why builders stay .4 / .5 under the spec. what happened was the engine spun a cam nearing the first night out and at the rebuild the shop clipped the heads because of the head gasket fire ring recess in the heads. he had built the engine too close to the limit originally. he admitted the original build was only .2 under.

When the biggest pavement group in WI went to a 9-1 rule in the 80's it didn't take long for the racers to figure out that the inspectors would only check the easiest cylinder to access. Suddenly all but one cylinder were made virtually inaccessible by tubing, oil lines, brackets, etc. Those other 7 cylinders were 12-1... The easy one was 9-1.
