Re: Valve pockets
You mean valve reliefs in the pistons? I can think of a few, 318 Chrysler, 440 Chrysler, some Ford 5.0 engines, Oldsmobile 350's, lots of stuff that isn't all that unusual to see.

Re: Valve pockets
I am thinking you are talking about cylinder heads like those on 348-409 chevrolet engines where there is no combustion chamber. the valves appear to be flush with the head surface.

Re: Valve pockets
i mean the area behind the valve and the and were the port connects to. have always referred to it as the valve pocket
Re: Valve pockets
“Behind” meaning upstream of the valve head, right where the valve seat turns into the port?

Re: Valve pockets
I think he is describing the bowl behind the valve backside in the port? I think?

Re: Valve pockets
What's the difference between the previously posted heads and these? Visually, they don't seem to be very different. I've seen plenty of people mention doing pocket work on 4v modular heads. If there's "no pocket", what are they referring to?

I'll take a D Bob for Dialect as many of our engine terms sometimes are difficult to translate and use in other parts of the world.

Re: Valve pockets
The bowls in these heads have already been ported and cleveland bowls have not that’s why they look a little different.

Re: Valve pockets
dont understand why this was so confusing. have just pocket ported heads quite often always called it a valve pocket.
any rate wondering about thoughts on last i knew of mod motors dont really have a valve pocket. i know 2 reasons ford didnt but all work i have done with fluid and gases flow were a poppet valve is needed a valve pocket is used/needed to keep from restricting the flow to compensate for the valve.
