Hurricane Irma

Post by enigma57 »

Well, here we go again. Next hurricane is on its way and it is a bad one. 'Irma', a category 5 storm which has sustained winds of nearly 200 MPH and is as large as the state of Texas (nearly 2,000 miles across) thus far. Much larger and stronger storm than Harvey. One of the 5 strongest hurricanes in recorded history to impact America. The weather people expect Irma to make its way towards the US coastline and turn North somewhere near Florida. Its really too far away to know for sure where it will go. We will keep an eye on Irma for sure......

Here are some animated satellite weather radar links which will refresh and show current conditions each time you open them......

Yup. One of the most powerful recorded in the atlantic...I can't imagine the feeling of impending doom knowing that thing was slowly churning towards you and you might lose everything, and I grew up in tornado alley (60 miles from OKC).

My wife was supposed to travel to Florida on Sunday. Doesn't look promising.

Projected path of the storm as of this afternoon. If it does take this turn North, Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas will take a hard hit. Bear in mind that this storm is nearly 2,000 miles wide. The 'cone of uncertainty' indicated on this graph reflects where NOAA's computer model projects the eye or center of this storm to track. Other models shift the center farther West and have the eye passing anywhere from directly through Miami to hugging the West coast of Florida rather then the East coast.

Time will tell. Whatever happens, Y'all take care and look to your safety. Very few structures (especially residential construction) are constructed to survive a direct hit from winds near 200 MPH (think F4 tornado winds here). Not to mention rains and flooding. And if you are anywhere near the coast, consider tidal surge, as well.

G-d bless,

Wasn't Camille's tidal surge something like 23 to 24 feet when it hit Biloxi???

Yes it was, pdq. Irma's storm surge is expected to be around 12 ft. in hardest hit areas. Still nothing to sneeze at.

Projected track of storm has been revised a bit West of earlier predictions. Looks to be right along the West coast of Florida according to latest update.

I have asked this before on ST so I will ask again.

Is it possible to snuff out Erma by dropping a nuke in it's eye? $180,000,000,000(?) in possible damage costs vs one nuke dropped out at sea???

They put out oil well fires this way is why I bring it up.

And didn't they shut down the site that pictured, so-called, "HAARP-Ring", activity?

I want to say it was the, "duitchsince", site or some such name. From Europe.

It tracked so-called, "HAARP-Rings", that would show up around the storm paths... By using something like radar and such?

Funny that now we have these monster storms and that site was shut down a bit earlier!! Now there isn't anyway to see if, "HAARP", is being used??

And what is this stuff about giant floating energy generators that our Gov. has that can be used to heat the air around/in front of a great big storm??

"TFH", crap or for real??

Only way to know for sure is to try it, pdq. That sort of thing is above my pay grade, but I doubt it.

Pretty interesting read. I can't imagine the frenzy about gas right now. We had a shortage up here due to Harvey for just a weekend and people were already acting like jack-holes in record time. But I take great solace in knowing there's a d-bag with 55gal trash cans full of gas that probably cost $0.20 more a gal than it is now to fill them up.
