Riding lawn mower.

Post by pdq67 »

I thought that one like this

was hydro-drive, but now I can't seem to find it.

Anybody know which manufacturer sells one that is hydro-drive?

Across the street and over one house is where a John Deere STX38 Hydro rider mower is at.

I have asked if it is for sale and haven't heard back.

It appears to have been parked in the garage for like since the early 2000's?

What is it worth?

$200 or so???

Just bought it and rolled it home.

It is old and dusty, but basically brand new!

PS., fwiw, it is a, "black deck", mower!

I got my John Deere STX38 Hydro home to find out that bottom right front corner of the hood is toast! It's hard to believe that JD cheeped out and put plastic hoods on them! Mower appears to be fantastic and that's what the guys on the web are saying.

I think that I can fish-plate and pop-rivet it back together. Won't look pretty but it will hold it together.

Anyway, now I need a new sparkplug, oil filter, and battery. Should I just look on the web for this stuff and go? It has a 13 hp Kohler single cylinder engine if that means anything. In other words, any tips on buying this stuff that will help me out???

Guys, I am a virgin when it comes to riding lawn mowers, ran one (1) time way years ago for a morning mowing around our Church is all. Don't know ANYTHING about them so please bear with me.

We have a good sized corner lot and now that I am finally past 70 years old, I have to take two days to mow it using one of my three survivor push mowers. (20" mag.-decked Craftsman, 21" Steel-decked commercial Lawn Boy and 22" Murray cuts).. Time for a rider!!

Thanks for any AND all comments!!

PS., I will use the blades that are on it until I can find some, "gator", blades! I like the, "gator", blades, they are heavy duty and really cut and mulch!!

I'm following along with interest. If you don't mind, what did you end up paying for it?

Thanks, Dave!

Didn't know about the green duct tape.

I will probably fish-plate it using some thin sheet metal and then pop rivet it all together. Should do fine for what I need.

I did this to the way old Craftsman 20" mag. framed lawn mower because it was cracked about 8"'s or so where you put your foot to pull start it. Worked out great, imho...

I would love to find a 24" mag. framed lawn mower!! Sucker would be light as a feather...
