It made:
Best Hp: 655.1 @ 6600 rpm
Best Torque: 550.2 @ 5200 rpm
It's still making 646 at 7500 rpm and the torque cure is flat as Kansas.
Average HP: 614.6
Average Torque: 520.0
Test Range: 5000 to 7500 rpm

It ran:
5.88@2700 lbs in his 3rd gen Camaro

Weight: 2700 lbs with driver (213 lbs)
36" Ladder Bars
Santhuff Double Adjustable Rear Shocks with 125 lb springs
Rear Gear: 4.78
3 1/2" Aluminum DriveShaft
Rear Tire: 275 Hoosier Drag Radial on 15 x 10 Wheel
Powerglide Transmission with 1.80 first gear ratio
8" PTC converter - 5800 Stall speed (drops to 6100'ish on 1-2 shift)
Santhuff Front Struts with coilover kit and 150 lb springs

It's getting ready to go back on the dyno and looking to make 700hp with a new Jones cam and few updates. I know for a fact the port shape on the 205cc is much better. I also know that Whiteners carb is worth HP.

PS.. I know for a fact the engine doesn't nose over! :)

First thing I looked at wasn't flow numbers, but did the head continue to flow up to 1.00 without taking a nose dive.

If it doesn't keep flowing, it still needs work.

My block has 4 bolt caps, studs, filled to the bottom of the water pump. It still scares me, a lot...

its sort like saying no one could build an engine and make high RPM HP back in the 1960,70's,80's

what about the Martin Brother's little Chevy II and then their AMC Gremlin ??
.... everyone , all the Fans , use to run up to the fence and watch the little Martin Bros Chevy II make a hi RPM Run
and Bill Jenkins ProStockers SBC 331's , Reher-Morrison- Lee Sheperd, Nickens Bros, etc

all the Racers/Engine Builders routinely turning 9000+ RPMs back then

i use to turn my C/ED 316 2-bolt main Chevy II Block 10600 to 11000 RPM thru the lights

my old 355cid Hecho in Mexico Block w/ stock GM 3.480 steel crank with Rod Journals turned down 0.102" off to small journals
had .004" Rods and Mains clearances M55HV oil pump
8000 Stall ... never saw anything under 8000 RPM , shifted 9200-9300 crossed always 9700 to 10000 RPMs
ran that engine 2 years ... sold it for cash + 65 Corvette ... that Racer ran it for a year in an Altered ... he traded back for the Corvette
i ran a half-season more ... now its going to be a 377cid when i get free time

What was the HP/CID on those early engines...if you don't mind my asking?

A 400 block is a very different thing from a 4" bore block.
I see no problems with 4" or smaller blocks N/A without power adders but the 400 block is fragile.
Do you use cap plugs in the decks?

I am not quite sure as to how many of the guys you mention the concept of port energy and energy density has filtered down to yet so it is hardly surprising they are possibly not using it.
