Voodoo lunati cams?
Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a new cam for my 388ci street engine, Is there anyone one here using those lunati cam profiles in their steet engines? I would like to bleed off some lower rpm TQ for a stronger top end.

Lunati recomened me the first profile.
Engine spec is in my signature
Thanks

A regular poster UDHAROLD may have designed those cams- drop him a pm
what's missing from your post is compression, head flows, exhaust
intended usage trans gears weight, power brakes etc
post back, if he does not log in drop him a PM

I PM'd him sometime ago via here, but he has yet to log in and view it. lol.
compression is 10.5:1, think I have 1 7/8 header pipes with sidepipes, for street use, TKO600 gearbox, 3.54 rear axle, 2200lbs weight, using a brake servo. Cruises at 80mph at 3,000rpm
Re: Voodoo lunati cams?
get those head flows or estimate and Give mike jones a shout
what rpm do you shift- where do you want to shift?
whose cam now?
1.5 rockers?
try tightening up the lash and see if it makes any difference
do the intakes first, if there is an improvement do the exhausts
what lift will your springs take- spring specs

I just requiring if anyone is using the above cam profiles.
Re: Voodoo lunati cams?
I was hoping that you would hear from UDHAROLD
he could tell if these are latest technology or oldy moldy profiles
I noticed that Lunati did not have special profiles for Chryslers so I stopped looking.
also they say that SAE is .006 implying tappet lift whereas the SAE standard is .006 VALVE lift
so I have no reliable info on how they determine their seat durations...

With your CR and Gears, I'm with Lunati,,,cam number one, BUT the AFR 227 dont like that big spread from intake duration to exaust duration.
Somemething about two to four degrees more exaust duration works better, Tony Mamo tould us this, if I remember correctly.
If want more, increase the CR to 11.5 to 1, bigger cam and 410 gears. With a five or six speed tranny I'd go with 108LCA.

Re: Voodoo lunati cams?
Harold Brookshire did indeed design that cam series. I've used a number of them in customer builds and run one myself in a street pickup. I like them very well.

Can you please explain why the large split hurts the AFR's?BrazilianZ28Camaro wrote:With your CR and Gears, I'm with Lunati,,,cam number one, BUT the AFR 227 dont like that big spread from intake duration to exaust duration.

Re: Voodoo lunati cams?
post up your intake and exhaust flows or get them from the AFR website
before I go further lots of things can change how much extra exhaust you need IIF ANY (or less)
exhaust, headers, rocker ratios blower, turbo, etc
consider the whole system
but bottom line is the AFR intake/ exhaust ration may be better than stock
or the heads flow so well that too much intake flows out the exhaust (which would also affect your LCA choice)
or to control reversion
let us know what you find out
and thanks for bringing this up
one more thing to be considered

Yes they do have specially designated VooDoo profiles for a .904" diameter lifter.wyrmrider wrote:I was hoping that you would hear from UDHAROLD

BUT, the OP has a Chevrolet.

Re: Voodoo lunati cams?
It is NOT true that the AFR heads doi not like a big duration split. I use 10 to 15 deghrees manmy times, and as much as 20 degrees on some very serious rac e engines. The stronger the horsepower and the higher the engine will rev has the most to do with the extra exhaust duration. I always run a much more severe injmtake lobe than the exhaust lobe.. This can also have a very large effect

I have already posted up the flow rates for the intake ports above. I don't have the exh numbers.wyrmrider wrote:post up your intake and exhaust flows or get them from the AFR website

Why would you use a fix pattern cam then ie 230/230?
