I would like to put on a 2 inch carb spaser for 825 barry grant carb to lift it up to match my hood scoop better
should i spend the money and get the 4 hole tapered one or just put a cheep open one on it

IME you can't be sure what any spacer is going to do until you try it with your combination. Specifics of your engine, car and use might help some of the guru's here make a prediction.

If you just add a spacer to lift the carb the plenum will be greatly increased presenting other issues that will need to be addressed. Is this a race only vehicle of a street car?
As mentioned can you provide more engine/car details like what intake you are currently using cam heads weight etc etc etc.

As you don't know if the engine will like it I would purchase the cheaper one. You can buy a black phenolic type for about $25 on e-bay some places even cheaper.

If the money matters to you make your own carb spacers out of wood.
A make a few, mix and match and try them all. Use what works the best.

Sometimes you can get better throttle response if you use a combination of 2 - 1 inch spacers with the open one on the bottom and the 4 hole under the carb. BLP makes one 1PC. out of aluminum and it is pretty high$, and Jomar makes one out of phenolic I am pretty sure both are over $100. You can find the cheaper plastic ones for $15-25ea.

I'm using a 1" comp cam # 96000 vibration spacer that i opend up to an open , and a 1" tapperd 4 hole wood on top .. but i agree with others , you need to play around with spacers and see what works best with your setup .. talk to friends and see what they have that you can barrow at the track to see what works the best before spending the money ..
