184 Bow-Tie Block Questions

Postby cspeier » Thu Apr 12, 2012 8:31 am

I have a question on the 184 block. I have a new one here and going to use it for my build. The block is not priority oiling block. So this leads me to restricting oil and plugging holes. Would you guys just use a .060 restrictor in the back of the block and plug all the rest in front and what is remaining in the rear?

Or any tricks a guy should do to help oiling or prevent failure??

I prefer to drill the restrictors to a .090 hole instead of the .060,a good standard volume pump is all you should need, the Melling Select stuff seems to be pretty good. CVR also has some pumps that are a nice casting or they have them in billet also.

Sell it and get an SHP block, prioroity oiling a big plus, a great investment.

Most Roller lifters are restricted to begin with and I would not restrict oil to them.

I have sold alot of SHP and SHP PRO blocks and Little-M's over the years and none have been restricted so far and no issues.

I don't use them and the valve train parts are much happier on my motors than the ones I tear down that have restrictors in place, and there's no detriment to the bottom end oiling.

Chad,
Don't restrict. Lifter & spring life usually suffer if you do. Make sure the front to back factory drill lines up on the main oil galley. I have redrilled them bigger, when I had to....
