Ha! Madbill is correct, I've been working with coil-per-plug way too much lately. =D>

So you're saying that I fudged the install? Meeeeeeee???

I'm not terribly surprised. Lord knows I've done worse, lol.

Ya know, I'm not fully willing to submit to my own stupidity here. Tell me what I did wrong and I'll gladly eat crow... unsalted even.

Anybody who pretends they never make simple mistakes on here, is either full of crap or one of the Engineers.

I think the only thing you did wrong was incorrectly reading the timing light?

I refer to this a "clocking". That is my reason for the hole in an old cap at the #1 cylinder. Shine the timing light on it and you will see if it is in the right place or not. As mentioned, this was a problem with tolerance stack and vacuum advance canisters. Some times a slight bend in the canister rod was all that was needed to get the spark firing when the rotor/cap alignment was perfect. This is the method I use on my old "Frankenstein" Sun machine. I've seen many stock Delco point dist. with only 1/16" of contact alignment. That can make trouble with CD type ignitions, leading to firing the wrong cylinder. I've also seen proper clocking make engines run better when they seemingly had no problems.

Good excuse to use a transparent cap and see the "lightning in a bottle". Some even have decent dialectric properties...

It could have been worse, the OP could have called me a "retard" for realizing the obvious...

I am new to this forum. I was reading a post about a 327 engine that kicks back on the starter. Mine does the same when engine is warmed up. I just bought a 1962 corvette with the matching nos. block but the heads and carb were changed. The heads are the old 292 heads that gm sold over the counter as high performance heads. They were also called turbo heads. It was running fine when I brought it home recently and all I did was put some 91 octane fuel in it ???? Could the compression be so high that that fuel isnt good enough?? I believe the engine was originally 10 1/2 to 1 compression but could be much higher with those heads etc.
Please get back if you solved your problem and any one else is welcome to bail me out.
Thanks , Al

You need to check timing, ground and positive cables, battery capacity up to the job? also starter condition. The 292 heads start out at 64cc same as the double humps. Most of the time when I have seen this it was due to either to small of a positive or ground cable.A voltage drop test of the cables will show if they are part of the problem.
