Funny thing is I drop my stuff off my local engine shop.

I don't ask him what it cost.

I just know he will do me a good job & be fair with me.

I like doing business this way.

Well some of the blame has to go on the manufactuers if they would not sell to every tom dick and harry that has money to buy in we would have less trouble.

Are you saying people who own machine shops or people who buy parts from catalogs?

No i,am saying the intermet guys that sell out of there house or bedroom and sell the parts for 3% over cost. I have a locale company i deal with for parts that sells to garages these are customers of mine so they are under cutting me. At one time you had to prove you were a business not some one that just has money.

This is the result of the manufacturers getting greedy or hungry. You decide what the most suitable word is.

Smart man, that tells me you want the job done right, and you respect the shopdoing the work, a customer like you always gets more out of me and I also will go the extra distance for a customer like you who is serious.

Something else I do. I put my wants in writing. We look it over and make mutually agreed changes. I get a copy, he gets a copy. I don't like surprises. It's unfair to me the customer and unfair to my machinist/builder because it means I didn't communicate my needs adequately. We've gotten to the point we have a mutual respect for each other.
