why does the edit function go away?

Postby Engguy » Fri Sep 09, 2011 11:29 am

So if you read something you wrote and find a major goof up how do you then fix it? This is the only site I have found that removes it. Doesn't the original poster of his or her post have the choice to change it? If someone doesn't want someone modifying his or her posts then at least give an option to delete it all.

A few boards have a time limit to make revisions.
That option is built into the software.

For example, I can edit this post within a few minutes of posting,
but if I came back tomorrow, that option might be gone.
Just because you never studied the Laws of Physics,
doesn't mean they won't try to kick your ass.

There are plenty of boards that you can edit or delete the message years after.

We were running into situations where certain guys would make wholesale revisions/deletions (often of multiple posts) after many subsequent posts, rendering the whole thread incomprehensible... #-o

That's exactly right, but the bigger worry is a member's password being compromised and having all the posts deleted or edited into spam. A ton of effort has gone into creating the content on this forum. It needs to be protected.
