Pay to play is corruption, but there is a matter of degree and how much influence is bought. It's human nature, for better or worse. $10K to a mayoral candidate in Chi town is pretty minimal to do business there. Probably a minimum for a guy as rich as The Donald. I like the guy and think he would have a chance at being elected if he really wanted it. I heard his interview with O'Reilly and was pretty impressed. His angle on the birther stuff was interesting. His viewpoint wasn't so much questioning if Mobama was born in HI but that there may be something fishy on his birth certificate. Where is that damn birth certificate and why is he hiding it? HOW is he hiding it for that matter?

Anyway, I'd vote for the guy based on what I know now. If it was Sara v. Yomama I probably would cast a "protest vote" for a minor candidate.

The Obama Presidency is the biggest con-job ever foisted on the American people. There is very little we know about this guy. Virtually everything about his past has been sealed. Obama Care is a big con. By the way has anyone ever seen "his" health-care plan that he kept talking about? No, because there never was one. Has he ever had a private sector job ? Has he ever had a 9-5 job where he had to report to someone. He was supposedly a "community organizer". What did that entail? Who did he work for? We know his wife had a cushy job that was created just for her and when she left the job the position was deleted.

The Constitution says you have to be a "natural born" citizen. If Obama believed in the Constitution and America he should be proud to show his birth certificate and wave it in peoples faces. He may very well be born in Hawaii and if so what is the big deal by not proving it? John McCain did so when challenged in court in the past presidential election.

As to Sarah, she is light years ahead of any Democrat I can think of. You go girl.

To speak to my elected representative and attempt to convince him of my views is perfectly legal and correct. To support and vote for the candidate that best represents my interests is perfectly legal and correct. To make a financial donation to the party or candidate that best supports my interests is perfectly legal and correct.

If influence is subject to purchase, it risks being outbid by others with contrary views. The true meaning of democracy is that money talks, bullshiit walks.

I would suggest far too much time and effort has been spent on socialist programs, hand wringing over possible terrorism, the Muslim fundamentalists, and far too little mental effort expended on matters of real urgency. Like: who the hell is Obama, what has he ever done, and how in the hell did he get in there?

I think the very rich always come with excess baggage from questionable business practices so it really won't matter what was and wasn't done legally. Remember that leftists always exploit the truth. Look what happened to Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina in California last year.

We're all free to make our protest votes but when has it done any real good? Historically this practice only resulted in a democrat party victory. It took me a while to understand what a "community activist" is. I was like "WTF" when the term first surfaced in the campaign. In essence, a community activist is someone who helps people figure out legal ways for people who don't work to get (steal) money and services from those few of us left who do work. I am so sick and tired of it when I drag my 60yo diabetic, backachin', half blind, hypertensive sorry ass off to work that there are whole families who haven't worked for generations as well as public employees retiring at full benefits in their 50's and a whole population of felons (many of whom should just be executed) who I am supporting. The local central city (Buffalo) has a falling population and declining tax base. The schools are some of the lowest achieving in the country. The per pupil expenditures are over $22,000 Of course, the teachers union has incredible political clout. This is where the whole country is headed. A few really rich people, a small middle class mostly consisting of public employees, and most everybody else surviving by whatever handouts they can cop off of everyone else. The inmates are running the asylum.

Your perception is astute. Now we must ask, how did it get this way?

Did us rich people cause others to drop out of school and become unemployable (except for government work)? Did we seek to extend regulations and restrictions that choke off business and cause increased unemployment? Did we seek to raise taxes to astronomical heights and still claim the need for more revenue? Did we insist on excessive and unnecessary governmental expenditures using borrowed money? Well, yes a few Wall Street types did exactly that. But most of us did not.

What you have clearly observed is that the more we rely on government to do our planning, provide for our jobs, tinker with the economy, maintain pseudo-security and regulate the money supply, the deeper we sink into the swamp of ineptitude, apathy and pure swindle.

Two books that should be required reading in every high school: Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand, and The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Gibbons. And Free to Choose, by Milton Freidman.
