Smokey Yunick Indy Engine
I'm not sure if it's for real, but it looks like Smokey's 72 SBC indy engine is for sale. Might be of interest to this group.

I already have a 209ci SBC turbo Indy engine, collecting dust.

There would be no point.
those Indy engines ran on Methenol, and the manifold would actually get frost on it.

IIRC the air/fuel mixture at the back of the valve was 37 degree. That's what Smokey said during a conversation with him.

I don't know what the temp was, but it was cold.Ron Golden wrote:IIRC the air/fuel mixture at the back of the valve was 37 degree. That's what Smokey said during a conversation with him.

My dad built 209ci AMC V8's for Indy in 76-79, then they switched to Chevy, and had aluminum blocks made for 82 and 83.
On the dyno, you would have frost build up on the manifold, and if you turned the lights off, you could see through the white-hot stainless steel exhaust.

Re: Smokey Yunick Indy Engine
I noticed the Angle Plug heads. Would these likely be the 292 Turbo castings, probably swapped when the motor was freshened in the 80's?

Smokey developed the angle plug head long before Chevy started producing them.

Then probably the manifold was heated by the coolant.
Most E100 cars here have some sort of intake heating from engine coolant to keep frost away from intake..
