Corteco 16635 pan gaskets
At the end of last year I ordered 20 of the Corteco 16635 one piece oil pan gaskets as I have used this style gasket for years as well as Tom @ 3-V Performance and shops I deal with when Degtroit Gasket was selling this gasket, Any how got down to the last 3 gaskets in the box to descover the gaskets were identicle to the one piece Felpro gasket but a cream color.
I made a few calls first to find out that Corteco sold that line to Rol gaskets and after talking to the teck there I told him this gasket is identicle to the Felpro one piece seal gasket and I have had a lot of calls about those gasket not sealing very good because of cracking. He said they had complaints about what I was talking about and said if they were over torqued they would split, I said there are steel ring around the bolt holes so how could they be over torqued, I really never got an answer.
After a little research I called Mr. Gasket and talked to Don in teck to find out they are selling the soft rubber gasket identicle to the oil Corteco gaskets and after spending some time on the phone they are going to continue this line of gaskets.
The P/N of the Mr. Gasket is 6560

Re: Corteco 16635 pan gaskets
Hey Carl,
Seen that before as well but the guys that had the split gaskets were using them with the old style front cover that used the thin original pan seal.
Others have used the late cover on an engine with the gasket for the early cover and leaked as well.
Sorry for the hijack but
Detroit used to make a great V/cover gasket that was 5/16" thick with a fine granual cork. Do you know if those are still available in bulk. We use to be able to get them locally but no one carry's them up here anymore. race seasons coming........

Good call on the gaskets Gramps!!!!!!!!! What do you think of the Blue one piece OP gaskets from Fel Pro?
Pro Power
I get the 1604 Fel Pro valve cover gaskets, which is the double thick steel lam cork. I can get those in bulk and the price is pretty good.

I know which ones you mean and when Detroit went out of business that was the end of the valve cover gaskets along with all the other gaskets as well.ProPower engines wrote:Hey Carl,

Really...........where do they split? I do run cast valve covers so maybe that helps. Never had a problem with them yet.

Re: Corteco 16635 pan gaskets
I use the Fel Pro on wet sump motors and I have been happy with all of the ones I've used. I do notice if I leave them in my parts washing tank very long they fall to pieces. I use mineral spirits for solvent. I haven't had any problems with the gaskets other than the solvent. I use the 1628 VC gaskets and they would appear to be made out of the same material but they don't split in my tank.

Re: Corteco 16635 pan gaskets
I have switched to the Mr Gasket pan gasket that Carl refers to and like it very much.. it is the original balck Corteco gasket.
I wont use the Fel Pro blue gaskets any more. Like others I have seen report on various forums, I had 3 of them start to swell over a period of a year until they started splitting at the the timing cover. I was using the correct cover for the tick front seal. You could see the rubber starting to swell more and more over time.
