Mopar 440, how to increase rocker ratio

Postby Pugdog1 » Sat Oct 31, 2009 6:24 am

Good morning Mopar Experts

I am not very experienced with the mopar 440's. Can the rocker arm ratio be increased by simply swapping rocker arms, as in a small block chevy? :?

Thanks

Dan

By "swap", if you mean is there another rocker that fits? No, but many manufacturers make 1.6 rockers for the B/RB.
If the cam is stock/small/mild you can use both, but if the cam is already working use the intakes only 1st.

Shaft rockers are available from most everyone for the BB Mopar in ratios of 1.50, 1.60 and 1.70.

Once you step up to the good stuff like Jesel rocker arms then you can go as high as 1.85 ratio on standard BB Mopar heads. Some of the aftermarket BB Mopar heads will support up to 2.0 ratio rocker arms.

This picture shows 1.85 intakes and 1.70 exhaust rocker arms from Jesel on a 505 inch BB Mopar running Indy EZ heads.

We are building a mild 440 and I was just curious. Don't want to spend the money on this high dollar stuff and will probably go with the stock set-up.

By the way Andy, I am fixing to order a copy of your book.

If you're new to Mopars then I'd recommend spending some time on the Mancini Racing website as well as the Hughes Engines site. Between the two of them you'll find most everything you need. If you're on the west coast then Bob Mazzolini Racing is also a good resource.
