Post by GotSomeRust »

I need a few parts for a CVR starter. Where's a good place to get replacement parts? Thanks

You might try a local starter shop. I believe those are the Hitachi units and all but the mounting pad should be the same as the OE's use.

You might also check out this site,

I think all I need is this spring behind the gear. Anyone know where I can get one? Thanks...

That clutch pack/pinion assy is Denso (Nippondenso).

That particular spring (lost motion) rarely gives trouble. Are you sure you need to replace it?

Don't mistake it for the Hitachi pinion return spring, which always (eventually) gives trouble.

The spring is probably fine. Its actually missing the washer than retains the spring. Supposedly CVR is mailing me one, but I haven't see it yet.

If it doesn't arrive any junkyard geared Denso will offer up the right washer (shaped to fit over the splines). There's no need to pull the starter apart to change it, just pop the pinion off. Bit of an acquired knack to get it back on though..................

Best to have 4 hands for this job, unless you have the special tool for the job.

I get another person to hold things in position, then use 2 pair of small channel locks to squeeze the lock back into the washer / retainer.
