At 383?? A friend has a N/A 10.7:1 383 thats been in the 10.2x's @3330lbs. Runs and raced on pump gas and easily street driven, yet not something I would want for daily driver with a long commute. Probably would dyno in the 580 range.

Wait till Larry shows up!
600hp is very doable.... 700hp on 23° heads is very hard!

Yeah 383's don't make that easy to do!!!! Unless you make a 383 the hard way with a 3.500" stroke and a 4.155" bore! Even then with 23° heads?

Mine would run that at 3300lbs I think, I streetdrive it alot, it has overdrive. I wouldnt drive it everyday. If I was younger I would.John W wrote:At 383?? Just fishing to see if I am at the limit of what I have, Guess my next move is putting the engine/trans in a much lighter body.
I think I am around 600hp.

Thanks it was alot of fun. We built that engine as a circle track engine for him a few years before. He decited to change things up and do some street / drag racing so we converted it over.chevy_power wrote:Two thumbs way up tom, that's impressive!

23* power
Yea! six and a quarter on pump gas w/23*heads and a 355 no less. Very nice Tom. I'm w/ Big Joe though,if some's good more's better. You get up in that range you're gonna be needin a better block and crank anyway, why not go BIG.
Well Mr Joe, 383 is kinda what I ended up with. Got a killer deal on a shortblock. 396 is about the limit on a 2nd gen LT1 engine anyway. The safe limit and streetdrive it.bigjoe1 wrote:I have seen good 383 motors that were in the 615 to 625 range on pump gas-- No days, if you wanted more HP, why would you only build a 383 ?? Bigger is allways better
JOE SHERMAN RACING ENGINES
SO I have pretty much peaked is what I am getting from you guys?
Guess I need to leave it alone and enjoy it. Lighten the car, more converter and try to get a 10.69 out of it.
What about this guy..............

Whats the deal with this thing I think it is the same cube and style as your engine.............do the math I used the calculator at Prosystems.
