Mill vise project

Post by Zmechanic » Mon Oct 15, 2018 2:08 pm

Bought this mill vise for cheap. It's an older import. Decided to do a little reconditioning on it. Just finished hand scraping the base. You can see how flat they are from the factory...

Just starting. The blue is where it's touching the surface plate. This was after the first few early early passes. The very first pass, it was really only touching at the mounting bosses (not too surprising honestly).

After roughing for awhile (trying to start scraping in points but had to go back to roughing).

Done as I'm gonna get it. Still a few low spots, but much improved.

Very nice work.

Probably better than some of the used "high end" mill vises we purchase.
