You will pay dearly for a complete core but piecing it together is sometimes easier and cheaper. And FYI - AMC did not stamp VIN’s on their blocks back then so “numbers matching" is not an issue. You need a 68-69 390 block which is different than a 1970 390 block. The 68-69 has a lower deck height and 7/16” head bolt sizing. The 68-69 cylinder heads have rectangular exhaust ports while 1970+ heads are dog-leg. Exhaust & Intake manifolds, brackets, etc., are standard fare on any model of the same year as the SC/Rambler except of course for the air filter assembly and flapper. This is reproduced. As the Sc/Rambler is one of the more valuable AMC’s, you want it visually correct.
Enough history. I was at an old friends yesterday here in Phoenix, AZ and he has a +.010” and a +.030” 68-69 390 block, 1 pair of slightly ported 68-69 heads with double valve springs, 1 bare head (all 3 heads are cast with “x” on exterior corner). He’s got a bunch more 401 blocks & heads also plus a bunch of other stuff. I think he will be reasonable as he wants the stuff gone; no longer an AMC racer.
PM me if you are interested and I’ll get you two together.
Jeff

Here’s a list:

’68-’69 390 block 4.175” bore.
’68-’69 390 block 4.195” bore.
’68-’69 crank needs rod journal weld repair.
401 block 4.240” bore has extra head bolts with matching heads that have been ported.
401 block 4.200” bore.
(2) 401 heads w/ extra head bolts (bare).
(2) ’68-’69 “x” heads ported with double valve springs.
(1) ’68-’69 “x” head (bare).
(3) late model 360-401 heads (bare).
(1) late model 360 complete.
(1) late model 401 complete.
(8) 401 Rods.
(2) Norris Cams
Box of fuel pump eccentrics, Distributor drive gears, one bag of VIN rivets.

He’s looking for $3,000 total. Doesn’t seem interesting in splitting it up but he probably will if there’s enough interest out there.
