Complete Cylinder Head Machine Shop Sunnen Equipment

Post by JRice »

I bought all three Sunnen pieces of equipment from a shop in GA that was going out of business.
I'm the second owner and they are all in great shape and are being used until sold. The flow bench I'm also the second owner of and it came from a one man shop in Chicago.

Equipment list

Sunnen VGS-20 well tooled with sharpener, has about 40 pilots, lots of various 3D cutters, Sunnen p-310, Sunnen guide hone, k-line 7mm, 5/16, and 3/8 liner kit, about 100 reamers, lots more I can get a list of everything.

Sunnen VR-7000 with stand and wheel for titanium included

Sunnen CHW-50 also comes with tooling (hard to imagine doing OHC heads without it now that I've used it)

Also have a Superflow 600 with berzenski fixture and Flowcom

And lastly I have a older Bridgeport with power X axis and a burco head fixture with a "bigflycutter.com" cutter.

Now I know it's going to be difficult to sell this all to one person. So I will split it up but I'd like to move the vgs-20 first before I split up the rest of the items.

The price list
Sunnen VGS-20--- $25,000
Sunnen VR-7000--- $10,000
Sunnen CHW-50--- $5,000
Superflow 600--- $7,000
Bridgeport and tooling--- $3,000

Obviously I'm up for offers and possibly trades, I just get bored really fast with my side hobby
I can send more pictures if anyone is interested.

Am I asking too much?
Just no market for these pieces?
Obviously it's Christmas and all but I would've assumed some interest by now....

You are asking more than the used equipment dealers for much of that stuff. ( and the dealers ask top dollar)
Used equip is a tough sell on a forum like this unless a very good deal. It's also a declining industry (auto-machining)
I hope you can at least get your investment back.

The tooled VGS-20 is in the ball park
the VR7000 is out there on the very high side
The flow bench is a special deal
And the assembly bench is on the steep side as I have been looking for a 2nd bench like that for a few months and seen others that were comparable in condition

The only reason I have the vr-7000 priced where I do is bc I haven't seen one
Comparable for sale in over a year. It's in perfect shape.

I appreciate the insight though guys. Hopefully someone is looking for a complete
Head shop and I can cut them a deal on a turn key shop.

You've got some quality machinery. FWIW, unfortunately, you'll need some luck to get anything like what you paid. I have a friend who's a machinery broker and I'm always amazed/dismayed at how he's continually able to buy complete shops for just peanuts. He makes his money by taking the time to advertise, photograph, answer the phone, crate and ship individual machines, often overseas.

It was ran for 7 days....
I got tons of people messaging me wanting me to sell off tooling from the vgs, I'm not interested in
Selling off just the tooling.
I plan to relist it after the first of the year one machine at a time.
Seems the market has been flooded with used VGS-20 in the past month so that doesn't help my sell any.

I paid 6500 for a used (excellent condition) VR8000, with stand. It was a smoking deal. I would not sell it for less than 8500.
Go find one, or one comparable.

Still using the machines until sold.
If they aren't sold by the end of this month (Feb 2017) I'll continue to buy a couple other
Machines to "complete" my shop and keep making money with them.

So if anyone reading this has a nice well tooled white Sunnen HS-60 I'm interested.
Also looking for a dcm surfacer (I miss mine dearly) and wouldn't mind having a cylinder head pressure tester. I
Use one at a local shop but would rather have my own if I continue to keep the machines.
