Alternative to BHJ

Post by ALKYAL »

Getting ready to put Bed Mill in service. Need fixturing to locate 2in diameter bar for block work. So far have only heard and seen BHJ V block/hold down fixture. They also sell a fixture to hold the block @ correct angle for Deck/bore. Its 379.00 alone. Any Alt. suggestions. Could prob. make the Tilt fixture if I had a picture and some basic dimensions. Thanks Al

There is already thread discussing DIY options:

We bought a 4' stick of turned, ground, polished 2" for $108.

A shop I visited made their clamp setup from a pair of 6" Chicom V-blocks, some T-bolts to hold it to the stanchions and a pair of C-clamps which have a small V-block pad on the screw. They had less than $100 in it.

I had a machinist friend with a CNC lathe whip up seven different sets of main bore adapter rings for less than half what BHJ wanted.

If I were making the plate, I'd use thicker stock so standard Starrett levels would sit better.
