Mystery part - maybe a boring bar driveshaft?

Post by PackardV8 »

Found this seemingly new driveshaft in an old Kwik-Way Valve Refacer cabinet. At first I thought it was for a Kwik-Way boring bar, but it's smaller in diameter than the two Kwik-Ways we have.

The shaft is 24" long, 5/8" diameter, keyway most of the length, brass gear at the bottom 3" diameter. Any guesses?

Yes it looks like a driveshaft for a KW bar. It should have slot milled to end without gear, the FW bars used two different styles of driveshafts.

Thanks for the reply.

The slot for the keyway starts about a foot above the gear and runs to the end of the shaft.

The two Kwik-Way bars we have, the driveshafts are much larger in diameter. Which bars might have a 5/8" shaft?

Appreciate the offer to help. Yes, an exploded drawing might confirm the hypothesis.

Morning Jack , I have 2 different FW's set up on stands for boring powersport cyl's and Lloyd's right they both have 5/8
driveshafts. I'll see it I can scout up 1 of the manuals, as I'm pretty sure they had parts break downs in them. Or KW
might email you a copy of that page.

Kwik-Way, shows that shaft as a 5/8 for FW machines,# 057-0131-09 is for machines up to 6999 serial#. #7000 and up uses # 057-0131-50. The dimensional difference I do not know?

Thanks for the confirmation. As soon as I saw it, I knew it had to be a Kwik-Way bar driveshaft. Now, all I've got to do is find an FW in need of a NOS driveshaft.
