Indiana Claims It Can Forfeit Cars For Speeding 5mph

Since this is a car site, thought this was interesting, let me ramp it up right out of the gate must be "republicans behind this"

"Arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday, Indiana’s solicitor general was already trying to defend confiscating a $42,000 Land Rover taken from Tyson Timbs, who sold less than $400 worth of drugs. Before the day was through though, Solicitor General Thomas Fisher found himself arguing that the Constitution would let him forfeit luxury cars caught going five miles over the speed limit.

Both scenarios involved civil forfeiture, which allows law enforcement agencies to seize and keep property, even over the most tenuous links to wrongdoing, as well as the Eighth Amendment’s ban on excessive fines. During Wednesday’s oral argument, Fisher claimed that the latter didn’t apply to the former."

Why "just following the law" is not always right.

Ha ha ha, I have posted this stuff before and it is either laughed at or ignored. YOU DO NOT OWN A CAR THAT IS TITLED. Period.
You only own the car if you have the Manufactures Statement of Origin. It is standard practice when purchasing a new car that the MSO is sent to the state and then the stat issues you a nice STATE title. That simple act means the state owns the car or ? And gives them ultimate authority over the car or ? That all is very likely from the same bunch that got rid of the homesteading act. The party is the demoncrat take something from you party that did it.

You are inserting another argument here, this thread was originally about excessive fines and punishment that did fit the crime, like confiscating a car for 5? mph over the speed limit.
