Northern Virginia Men Accused Of Swindling Billions From Pentagon

Post by 1989TransAm » Tue Dec 04, 2018 7:10 am

"WASHINGTON — Three men from Northern Virginia have been charged with defrauding the Department of Defense of nearly $9 billion in contracts.
Abdul Huda Farouki, 75, of McLean, his brother Mazen Farouki, 73, of Boyce and Salah Maarouf, 71, of Fairfax all pleaded not guilty to eight counts each of fraud and violating sanctions against Iran.
Federal prosecutors say the three men — all executives connected to defense contractor Anham FZCO based in the United Arab Emirates — were awarded an $8 billion contract to provide supplies and food to American troops in Afghanistan in 2012.
The indictment says that the company gave false timelines for when the work would be done on two warehouses, and that they backed up those claims with misleading photos that made construction appear to be further along than in reality.
In addition to creating the false appearance of an active construction site, the company is also accused of trying to cut costs by moving those supplies through Iran, in violation of U.S. sanctions. When Abdul Huda Farouki learned that The Wall Street Journal was going to run a story about Anham moving supplies through Iran illegally, investigators say he sent an email to a senior Pentagon official saying that senior management had no knowledge of the plans.
The company was also awarded a second contract worth $984 million to bring trucking services to the U.S. Military in Afghanistan. Again, according to the indictment, the trucks were moved through Iran in an effort to save money, in violation of sanctions.
Each executive has been charged with two counts of major fraud, one count of conspiracy to violate the restrictions on doing business with Iran, four counts of substantive violations of those restrictions and one count of conspiracy to commit international money laundering."

$8,000,000,000!

AND another $984,000,000....

That's alotta Money!!

For that kinda money, I could probably hire, "mules", to row the supplies across an ocean and then pack them to where needed!!

Two warehouses to boot!

And to think I didn't get a kick-back too??

"Clinton Foundation donor charged in alleged Pentagon scheme to defraud billions (UAR-based company)"

"Three Northern Virginia men--one reportedly celebrated New Year's Eve in 1999 with the Clintons--were charged in alleged scheme to defraud WRT an $8B Pentagon contract in 2012 to provide food and supplies to US troops in Afghanistan. Federal prosecutors said Anham FZCO, a UAR-based defense contractor--- knowingly gave false estimates for a warehouse to provide supplies for troops in Afghanistan. They allegedly provided "misleading photographs" showing the project was further along than it was. "Anham employees transported construction equipment and materials to create the false appearance of an active construction site," a DOJ statement read. One warehouse was a concrete slab in the ground, and construction did not yet start on the second one, Stars and Stripes reported.
Abdul Huda Farouki, 75, the ex-Anham CEO; his brother Mazen Farouki, 73; and Salah Maarouf, 71, pleaded not guilty to eight counts each of fraud and violating sanctions against Iran, according to an indictment unsealed Thursday in Washington, D.C.
Abdul Huda Farouki and his wife were Washington socialites and donated to the Clinton Foundation--the Clinton family charity, the WSJ reported....Farouki celebrated New Year's Eve with the Clintons in 1999 and was invited to a state dinner at the WH.
Bloomberg cited a government audit that found that Anham overbilled the Pentagon $4.4 million. The company allegedly moved equipment through Iran, a possible violation of sanctions. Farouki fired off an email to a senior defense official that "falsely claimed" senior management at the company were unaware of the transshipments. Anham reportedly said it helped the US save $1.4 billion by reducing prices. "ANHAM continues to cooperate with the Justice Department and continues to believe that the purported violations are without legal merit," the company said in a statement on its website."
