Canada will not double its defence budget despite calls from Trump: Trudeau

Post by 1989TransAm » Tue Jul 10, 2018 3:49 pm

Perfect example of a liberal who wants others to pay their way. This is precisely what President Trump is talking about in regards to NATO.

"Canada has no plans to double its defence budget, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insisted Tuesday, despite continued calls from Donald Trump for all NATO countries to meet agreed-upon targets for defence spending.

Canada did agree to the two per cent benchmark in Wales, but the Trudeau government’s spending projections show plans to reach only 1.4 per cent of GDP by 2024.

Trudeau says that while the two per cent target remains a legitimate way of measuring the commitment of alliance members, he considers tangible and consistent resources and leadership, which Canada continues to demonstrate, to be more important."

Yup sorry about that Trudeau is a complete moron. Hopefully it will end at the next election. The provinces are starting to elect conservative leaders. Ontario first, our is up in 10 months or so and then the federal.

Many of us conservative minded Canadians hang our heads in shame.

While we are disgusted with present leadership, we await another chance in the next election.

Most of us are not in favor of violence, shutting down free speech or even burning tires!!

Well, maybe shut down the CBC :D

Thank the Lord Ontario has become "Ford Nation", I pray Alberta and everyone else follows!!

Thanks

So raise your taxes to increase your revenue to reach the 2% contribution, or slash your health care to generate more available funding or some combination or we will send our pit bull over to punch Canada 10 times harder and MCGA

If Canada were to increase defence spending, I suspect the US would also increase theirs proportionally, and so would many other countries, to maintain the balance of power. It’s a waste of tax dollars. Try to imagine a scenario where Trump would voluntarily cut defence spending and thereby give up power and influence on the international stage, not going to happen IMO.

canada could quadruple its defense spending, and the US wouldnt have to even think about spending more to keep the power balance as it is.

If that were true, then we could halve our defence spending instead of increasing it, with no consequence to the US. But Trump is making it sound as though the US is being forced into defending the world because nobody else is stepping up. More likely, Trump wants a bigger military for reasons of vanity, and it will require more government spending, and he is trying to sell it to the public by using Canada as a scapegoat.

I always thought the deal that Canada signed was 2% of GDP.

I also thought Canada signed the deal before the Trump Presidency.

Thanks
Randy

Naaaah! All Canada need do is sign a defense agreement with the Russian Federation, join the SCC and the New Silk Road, allow access to a couple of deep water ports and they could drop their defense budget by 75% or more. And.........get rich doing it. No-one would invade them then, whether from the East, North or South...

Oh but it does !!!!!!!!!!!!! It dictates to disarm americans. It dictates to lock up the land, ie huge land grab, and to force americans to live in select communes that is the areas away from the mountains and forests that have been locked up via UN mandates. There is a whole lot of learning needed by trump and others about it all.
