Supreme delivers a big blow to 25mil+ workers
Well, 25+ million workers just lost any foreseeable hope of joining any class action lawsuits regarding their labor rights. Decision was 5 to 4, guess who delivered the swing vote?
This looks like to eventually seep into consumer rights restrictions on class action legal actions also.
If I understand briefly what this means, if a corporation cheats you and others out of say legal overtime, and if you signed, unknowingly a forced arbitration agreement to gain employment, you have to fight the company individually thru arbitration, which with the company having greater financial resources then you, it would likely be a losing costly battle, ie you don't sue, they win.

So is this ironic, my email provider undated terms of "forced mutual arbitration" agreement this morning in order for me to log in.

IMHO what his means is that a signed contract is enforceable. The Supreme Court validated a signed contract.

4 Justices do not agree with you. Requiring one to give up your right to your day in court, a long standing time honored pillar of our legal system, in order to be gainfully employed, when your other rights have been violated, does not seem to me, to meet the spirit of the law.1989TransAm wrote: ↑Tue May 22, 2018 9:00 amIMHO what his means is that a signed contract is enforceable. Unions seldom have this issue, as there is strength in numbers, which the corporations are exploiting against the single, violated worker.
A contract signed, does not by itself make it enforceable.

True enough, however the Supreme Court upheld the contract involved.

Class action is stupid anyway. If won maybe you get enough money to buy a hamburger. Or like with the chevy truck gas tank, you get 1K off a new truck, like that does anyone that can only afford the junker that has the problem any good. 1K off was really nothing paid out or lost by GM, it was just some of the 100% plus markup they weren't getting.

no one is being forced to work anywhere. you sign a contract, then the problem of being underpaid is on you.

If that is true, why are the corporations so afraid/against class action?
Yes, the lawyers make out best financially when they prevail, but the upside for the workers, its a great deterrent for the corporations not to screw with the workers, contract or not.

You missed the main points, it's very/prohibitively expensive to fight in arbitration singly, and if the contract agreed to is not being followed to your satisfaction, you CAN"T go to court.
