U.S. Weekly Jobless Claims Hold Below 300,000 for Longest Streak on Record

Post by 1989TransAm » Thu Apr 12, 2018 10:23 am

"Continuing claims by those out of work longer than a week rose 53,000 in the week ended March 31
WASHINGTON—The number of Americans claiming new unemployment benefits has never been so low for so long.
Initial jobless claims, a proxy for layoffs across the U.S., decreased by 9,000 to a seasonally adjusted 233,000 in the week ended April 7, the Labor Department said Thursday. This means claims have now held below 300,000 for 162 consecutive weeks, cementing the longest streak for weekly records dating back to 1967.
The current streak eclipsed the previous longest stretch that ended in April 1970.
Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal expected 230,000 new claims last week.
The consistently low claims levels point to labor market health because they mean relatively few Americans are losing their jobs and applying for benefits to tide them over until they can find new employment.
After several years of consistent job growth, firms are reluctant to let employees go in a tightening labor market in which many available workers are quickly snapped up."

So the new record it 162 weeks...but Rump has only been president for 63, almost 64 week. So of the 162, Oblahblah was president for 98, almost 99 .....so it's mostly his record right?

Remember how great things were in 2006, everything rocketing wide open, those were the days, and they were a big FAKE, before the crash.

So "Party on Dude", there will be a storm coming, DD or Cat 5. =D>

Jobless is down if you are a grunt worker. Its not down for someone wanting to get a head, I know someone trying to get a better job that has education to do so. No luck yet, but then he is not a big blabber mouth either so that is likely not helping him. Yeah tons and tons of idiot jobs out there. Pay $13 per hour, in an area where rent is $1700 for a dump. Any jobless crap is BS. Even the good and better jobs are offering peanut wages here now. And the major butt busting jobs like I have done in the past where you need $25K worth of tools offer $20 per hour maybe more if you don't want a rear end left.

A while back the Trump hater/trolls were making fun of the bonuses handed out due to the tax reform. IIRC they asked what bonuses anyone here had gotten. Well, I got a $1500 bonus in Feburary. I just got a $1750 bonus and I'm getting a $1900 bonus next month.
I used to be a people person, but people ruined it.

Exactly. It's calked Underemployment and is a trend that has been building for 10-40 years depending how you measure it. This is the actual problem, "jobs" not so much.

You're right, mk e, those guys should probably just file for unemployment and let all the illegals have those jobs.

Not in this case its not. All a pea nut wage does here is force someone else to have to put a roof over said persons head. All that wage does is pay for gas and some food.
