Doesn't sound good for Florida. The hurricane is in an ideal environment for further intensification. Lets hope it's not A DIRECT HIT.

Strongest ever in the Atlantic outside the gulf or Caribbean.

I was surprised as well but I guess it makes sense as normally hurricanes are weaker that far east and strengthen as the head west.

I saw this. Also how far back does the "record" go? 100 years? 117 years?

1980 Hurricane Allen winds (190 mph) and Wilma’s pressure (882mb).

You have to also wonder how good measurements were 100 years ago...or even 30 years ago before you could send drones in to find max numbers vs what happened to pass by a sensor....but either way it's a big storm.

Yup they are keeping pretty busy in those storms with their flying saucers energizing them to be the biggest and best. They will make Trump sorry for pulling out of the climate deal. Just like everything else going on they will make sure no one like Trump ever gets in again to ruin their plans.

FEMA is out of money. The Harvey cleanup will be something like $180B and this could be similar.

You do know that Congress controls the purse strings and not Trump?

It'll be interesting from an engineering standpoint to see if all the new building codes implemented after Andrew reduces the damage should Irma pass through South Florida.

Irma set another record today. 24hr at 180+mph winds. Broke Allens record of 18hrs with 180+ winds.

Gusts are now to 225mph.
