Rusty MSD reluctor

Post by BOOT »

MSD reluctor keeps rusting even with cap off. Read tons bout how some do and some don't because the metal is garbage!

Tried to get MSd to fix it even reads on their own fourms that they would replace the reluctor.

MSD sucks, what is the solution to fixing their JUNK!

I have had a few rust before.

My fix is pull the dizzy all apart so you can glass bead blast the reluctor so it looks like new and lightly sand rust off pickup.

Then Liquid Wrench makes a aresol chain lube, give it a few shots of that before and after reassembly.

It turns into a verry thin light grease coating.

Has worked great for my cars and some of the mud donkys around my area that refuse to maintain there junk.

I took it apart and cleaned it up and then coated it with clear nailpolish, so I cna see if it starts to rust under.

Make sure the reluctor is properly phased. The gap between cap and rotor must be at a minimum when the spark is generated ... a large gap not only reduces the spark energy at the plug, but generates ozone that will rust everything inside the distributor.
