If the Pro is a bit steep you get very good results with the normal EA too..

No he doesnt. Hes one of the guys that calls and wastes your time and then goes elsewhere as was mentioned earlier. I actually charge for a quote anymore. If the guy buys it, i credit the quote to the build. It separates the buyers from the BSers quick!!

The issue here concerns the value of intellectual property.

How would you feel if you spent 50 hours porting a cylinder head and someone comes along and takes it with compensating you for your work, effort and knowledge?

The same holds true for intellectual property. Kevin has spent thousands of hours developing his software and should be compensated by those who use it. To to otherwise is to be a thief and nothing more.

If you call Kevin and order a copy of his software, you might be surprised at how much more information he might be willing to share with you. Stealing the software is petty. Developing a circle of very smart guys that are willing to help you is very valuable and lasts for a very long time.

Dead on ,property is property and unauthorized use is theft.Besides if he didn't make money on it what reason would he have to keep improving it?

A free trial is not a waste!! It is free right?

A build not set in stone is like a free trial without an expiration date. You still have spent no $$$.

Dude,

You're asking the world for help because you misled yourself and things didn't turn out the way you wanted them to. That's fine but I'm a little confused by the fact that you don't feel your engine is worth anything.

If the engine & outcome of the build was worth something you'd have no problem with paying a good cam guy or buying the software.

Free TRIAL, not TRIALS. The second time IS stealing. You've obviously never written code (or songs, or books) for a living, or perhaps you'd understand. If everyone thought like you, whole industries would be without paychecks. Among this crowd, "hack" is a word synonymous with someone who can't do anything correctly...you're off to a good start.

The word is 'crack' now .. You crack the code or somehow 'bypass' or 'circumvent' the manufacturers anti-piracy measures ... 'Reverse Engineering' is another word, there are lots of ways around things...

So, now thieves are calling themsevles "Engineers" too? Get some education and write your own software (I bet you won't give it away when your college loan payment is due)...Corner-cutting is epidemic these days. I'm quite sure that "bypass" or "circumvent" would translate into "theft" in the courtroom. I sure hope a "Reverse Engineer" doesn't "circumvent" the deadbolt on my front door while I'm at the races this weekend.

Yeah, just look at the stuff that goes on in China (and other countries) where they literally turn a blind eye to all forms of piracy, Movies, Software, Hardware ... To add to that there is the whole downloading situation, with torrents and other sites ..

It costs the industry billions, it hits home when smaller operators lose their sales because of this and just stop making the software we all like to use like EA Pro ...

Is it likely to be busted for stealing this information???? Just ask our local Sheriff who views software piracy in the same light as "stealing Harley parts." One quick phone call from the software provider would be all it would take! Don't think it could happen to you? Guess again! In a very dedicated effort to fight cyber crime, our county has spent some big bucks on computers that do nothing more then catch crooks in cyberspace. Best part is they are damn good at it and these criminals actually get convicted and go to prison..........There the next question becomes "What are you in for?" usually followed by something like "Your kinda cute, wanna come over to my cell a little later?"......... What happens next is likely to be anything but soft!............... a continued period of acute localized pain and the resultant irritation all because ya didn't wanna pay for the services you benefited from. =D>

The free trial offered by Performance Trends was intended to help prospective buyers determine whether the program would suit their needs, by allowing a very generous "test drive". It is not intended to offer free use of the program until your engine is complete. If you change your mind and decide to build another engine, that does not entitle you to another free trial of the program. So in reality, you did not "waste" your free trial after all.

Sir,

I think most everyone in your position if they are really serious will pick up the phone and call the cam mfg. His advice will be based on experience for the same or similar applications.
Please take this as friendly advise, we already have enough " time pirates" out their.
