Tire Speed Rating

Post by 11secAvanti »

Need two tires for my front Weld 15 X 6 ProStar rims. Current size is P205 75R 15. What speed rating do I look for to be safe at 120 mph? And will this rim width take a smaller radial like a 195 75R 15? Thanks.

Your rim will work fine with a 195x75Rx15 tire, though this size is normally used for light trucks. An H-speed rated tire, (130 mph), or a V-speed rated tire, (149 mph), should serve you well. If using these tires on a race car please find a dealer specializing in race tires. Make certain your wheels are rated for the speed and type of racing you will be doing. Wheels made for drag racing may not be suitable for circle track or road racing. Do not compromise your safety!
